ROCHESTER, INDIANA—Today the North Central Indiana Area Health Education Center (AHEC) announced the hiring of Monika Ness as their Program Coordinator. Ness will assist AHEC as Program Coordinator by collaborating with regional educators and health professionals to identify community needs and student interests, develop and coordinate enrichment experiences for youth, and engage in the community via social media.
Ness will be taking on the Pipeline Programming initiatives previously overseen by Emerald Blankenship, and Senior Program Coordinator Janiece Stover. This transition will continue to allow Stover to focus her efforts on the success of the AHEC Scholars Fellowship, specific for current medical students with an interest in serving rural communities. Ness, a Logansport native, is a recent graduate of Indiana University Kokomo where she received her B.F.A. in New Media, Art, and Technology. Ness has a passion for finding creative ways to serve local communities and for prioritizing our youth in student work/education settings.
Ness experienced a series of internships in her time at Indiana University Kokomo, where she gained understanding and insight working as the Assistant Project Coordinator for the Design Center, as well as teaming up with the Indiana University Kokomo Media and Marketing Office as their student Graphic Designer. She also serves two local businesses in her home town of Logansport, IN where she works as an Esthetician and a Yoga Instructor. Area Health Education Center is a national, grant funded organization, administered by the Indiana University School of Family Medicine and hosted/housed locally by the Fulton Economic Development Corporation in Rochester, Indiana. AHEC provides healthcare education programs to youth, manages clinical rotations, and provides continuing education to existing healthcare providers.
