DELPHI – Delphi residents may soon be able to enjoy a new park honoring Abby Williams and Libby German if a crowdfunding campaign launched June 15 reaches its fundraising goal of $50,000 by August 14. The campaign, led by L. & A. Park Foundation, Inc., is using the CreatINg Places program sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority(IHCDA).

If the campaign reaches its goal, the Abby and Libby Memorial Parkproject will receive a matching grant of $50,000 from IHCDA.

“The tragedy involving Abby and Libby has deeply impacted Delphi, our state and nation,” said Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, who serves as board chair of IHCDA. “We are pleased at the opportunity to work with the L. and A. Park Foundation to create a park that will forever honor the memory of these two special young ladies.”

The funds raised will cover the cost of a multi-use amphitheater, three picnic shelters and a scenic walking path around the park.

“We are very thankful that the Abby and Libby Memorial Park has the opportunity to participate in CreatINg Places matching grant program,” says Eric Erskin with the L. and A. Park Foundation. “We will use the crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for this beautiful addition to our wonderful community of Delphi, Indiana.”

In 2017, the Carroll County Wabash and Erie Canal, Inc. used the CreatINg Places program to raise over $140,000 in funds ($50,000 from IHCDA) to make several safety improvements along the trail system in Delphi. These upgrades include: better lighting, cameras, informational kiosks and public wi-fi.

The CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised in excess of $1,980,000 in public funds and an additional $1,693,000 in matching IHCDA funds.

The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
